Volunteer Opportunity – Texas/Florida

Volunteer Opportunity in Texas/Florida

Hearts with Hands has given us the opportunity to help with the cleanup and relief efforts in Texas as well as preparation for any support needed in Florida ahead of Hurricane Irma.

Below is a list of contact information for individuals in Texas who can be contacted regarding cleanup efforts:

  • Don Jennings – HWH Representative in Texas – (205) 329-3804.
  • Pastor Stan Mitchell – Peoples Baptist Church in Corpus Christi, Texas – (910) 409-5328.
  • Roy Carrizales (Contact Don Jennings for contact information) – Pastor of a Spanish church in Houston near Christchurch Baptist Fellowship (Johnny Pope’s church).

Distribution of items is calming down in Texas and there is now more of a need for help to clean up the storm damage. There is a lot of work that can be done at Peoples Baptist Church in Corpus Christi, Texas as well as other surrounding churches in the Houston and Corpus Christi area. Clean up at Peoples Baptist Church includes picking up siding, trees, and other building damage.  Mr. Jennings mentioned that they could also use a roof contractor.

Finding a place to stay if needed in these areas may be difficult since all of the hotels in the area are booked by people who have been displaced by the storm. There are no road closures into the areas where these churches are located so it should not be too hard to get in for those who wish to drive.

For those who would like to help with distribution, there is an opportunity to travel to the Hearts with Hands warehouse in North Carolina to help with getting things ready for distribution to Florida in support of those who may be affected by Hurricane Irma.

Please call the church office if interested in the above opportunities. Please be advised that this will be a self-funded trip, however, the church staff will assist in any way possible to help coordinate your effort with Hearts with Hands.
